Asthma



Asthma is a chronic respiratory disorder, often arising from allergies, that is distinguished by sudden frequent attacks causing labored breathing, chest constriction, and coughing. Asthma is a respiratory disease that affects dogs and cats very often. It results in an impediment of the air passage when the bronchi (the air passages in the lungs) fill up with mucus and gets spasm commonly known as broncho constriction.

Symptoms of Asthma


Dogs and cats of any age can get asthma, but it occurs more commonly in young to middle-aged ones. The chief sign are:-

  • Coughing

  • Lethargies

  • Weight loss

Treatments of Asthma


To diagnose asthma, it is essential to perform radiography of the chest region and some other tests to rule out other respiratory problems. These may contain

  • Heartworm tests

  • Blood counts and chemistries

  • Bronchial leverage.

The prognosis for control of this disorder is good, with most pets living happy and normal lives with the help of life-long medication. Unless a fundamental cause can be detected or established, a cure is not possible. Yastimadhu - Commonly known as mulethi in Indian language. It has been widely used in all the respiratory disorders. It soothes the throat and helps in removing spasm of the respiratory muscles. Kantkari – one of the most commonly used herb in ayurvedic system of medication in treating respiratory disorders like cough and asthma. It is known as Solanum surattense in Latin language. Ayurvedic doctors have bee using kantakri of choti kateri since long time in treating asthma.
