Similar to that in humans, this is frequently found in older pets and is an extensive problem in the male pets. The glandular tissue of the prostate augments in size with age and puts force on surrounding structures like the bladder thus causing urinary and defecation problems. Although Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia is not an infection nor is it cancer, itcan cause very worrying sign and may get worse very regularly with increasing age.

- Discharge from the penis
Even though the above are widespread symptoms of prostate troubles in pets, it is significant to consult a veterinary doctor for a precise diagnosis.
Conventional deterrence and treatment of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia in pets is neutering. Neutering of young pets before the onset of teens will avert regular development and growth of the prostate and consequently most cases of prostate hypertrophy in later life.
